Who Is CurlShoppe?
CurlShoppe is a Canadian small business based out of Toronto. Our focus is to cater to CURLY in providing quality, affordable products and educating others on how to take care of CURLY hair.
Sometimes it's not always length that is the goal, but rather health when it comes to your hair. You want your hair to look good, feel good, and the end result is for those positive feelings to reflect on you as a person. Your hair is apart of you and is a symbol of your character. We hope to see all men, women and kids embracing their own unique hair and not afraid to be different. No 2 curls are alike and if you have curly hair, you know that each strand has a mind of its own!
Whether you're transitioning, newly big chopped, or a veteran natural, we have your back. We've been through all of the stages and know that it takes a lot of time and patience to take care of your curly hair. Our products have been tested on many different types of curly heads (NOT animals): wavy, loose, tight, coily, and kinky
We always look to listen to the customer and would love any and all feedback.
Meet the Curly Chicks behind CurlShoppe
Chief Executive Officer and Founder of CurlShoppe
Founder Natasha 'Natty' Sheppard is a biracial woman who has struggled with achieving her true curls all of her life. Being raised by her British-born Jamaican mother, easiest thing was a puff and twists until she got older and her mother relaxed her hair to make styling easier. She always thought her hair was straight, and at most a "wave" since whenever she tried to wear her hair "natural" (or so she thought) it never turned out right. Through many relaxers and weekly wash-blowdry-straighten routines, Natasha's hair was truly damaged. In 2009 she cut off her hair in hopes to look like the always trendy Rihanna. Instead of going edgy, she wanted to go natural but without the plethora of youtube videos, blogs and information there is available today, she didn't know how to take care of her natural hair properly and fell back to the "creamy crack".
As the years went by, the natural hair community grew rapidly and with a new found confidence, in September 2013, Natasha decided to start transitioning (growing out her relaxer). Twist outs, braid outs, bantu knots, flexi-rods, you name it! However when her new growth came in, she started to see actual curls coming through, even though her mother said she didn't have curls and never would. She persisted in her journey and when she couldn't resist the urge anymore, in June 2014, she big chopped after being 8 months post-relaxer.
After countless hours of watching youtube videos, reading blogs, and researching sites, Natasha got her healthy hair on track and finally discovered her curls. By sharing her journey and continuing to learn she became more confident in herself and embracing her new found natural.
Like herself, she wants to be able to pick up a product, look at its ingredients and actually understand what's in it. She wants to know that the company she's buying from understands naturals and what they go through to take care of their hair. So began | CurlShoppe.
